Shopify Developers
Sandcastle is a Seattle web development agency and Shopify Partner that builds on Shopify and on the platforms merchants migrate to it from: nopCommerce, AbleCommerce, and BigCommerce. That range matters. When we recommend Shopify, it is because it fits your business, not because it is the only platform we know.
Our Shopify work is concrete. We migrated ChefShop.com, a specialty food retailer we have worked with since 2014, from AbleCommerce to Shopify (read the case study). We also build and publish our own Shopify apps, starting with Sandcastle Admin Search, a product search and auditing tool for merchants with large catalogs. If we can ship an app through Shopify’s review process for ourselves, we can build one for you.

ChefShop.com
ChefShop has sold artisan foods from independent producers since 1997. We supported their AbleCommerce store from 2014, then moved them to Shopify in 2025 so in-store and online selling run on one platform, without losing the character their customers come for.

What does it take to migrate a store to Shopify?
We migrate stores to Shopify from Magento and Magento 2, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and WordPress, Volusion, Squarespace, nopCommerce, and AbleCommerce. The platform you are leaving changes the data work, not the shape of the project.
If you need to move in the other direction, or between two platforms where neither one is Shopify, see our ecommerce migrations and replatforming page. We work in all four major platforms, so we can tell you when Shopify is not the right destination.
A migration is mostly a data and continuity problem: products, variants, customers, order history, URL redirects, SEO equity, and the integrations your back office depends on. When we moved ChefShop.com to Shopify, the store had decades of catalog history and a loyal customer base that could not be disrupted. We planned the data migration, rebuilt the storefront experience, and preserved search rankings through the cutover. The full detail is in the ChefShop case study.
We migrate stores onto Shopify from platforms like AbleCommerce, nopCommerce, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce, and because we build on those platforms too, nothing about your existing store’s data structure surprises us. See our ecommerce migration services for how we scope and run these projects.
Custom Shopify Apps, Themes, and Integrations
Shopify’s admin covers the basics well, but growing stores hit its limits: bulk product edits, catalog audits, connections to ERPs and fulfillment systems. We build custom Shopify apps, private admin tools, theme customizations, and API integrations to close those gaps.
We know the work firsthand because we ship our own software. Sandcastle Admin Search, our Shopify app for advanced product search, duplicate detection, and catalog auditing, came out of the same problems our clients kept describing: too many products, not enough ways to find and fix them. Read about what it does and why we built it, or see our full Shopify app development services if you have a workflow the standard admin cannot handle.

Is Shopify the right platform for your store?
Often yes, sometimes no, and we will tell you which. Because we also build on nopCommerce, AbleCommerce, and BigCommerce, we can give platform advice a Shopify-only agency cannot.
Shopify is a strong fit when you want managed hosting, a fast launch, a large app ecosystem, and a storefront your team can run without a developer on call. It is a weaker fit in three common situations. First, transaction economics: if you use an outside payment processor, Shopify adds its own transaction fees on top, which adds up at volume. Second, deep customization: checkout and core data models are locked down compared to a platform you host yourself, where anything can be changed. Third, B2B procurement: Shopify has no native cXML PunchOut support, so selling to enterprise buyers through Ariba or Coupa requires punchout integration through middleware or a custom Shopify app, which we can implement.
If a self-hosted platform serves you better, we will say so and build it. If Shopify is the right call, we will migrate you with the same care we gave ChefShop.

Which platforms do you migrate to Shopify from?
We migrate stores onto Shopify from AbleCommerce, nopCommerce, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and other platforms, with products, customers, order history, and SEO redirects preserved. Our own ChefShop.com project moved decades of catalog data from AbleCommerce to Shopify. See our migration services.
Can you build a custom Shopify app for my store?
Yes. We build public apps, private admin tools, and API integrations. We also publish our own app, Sandcastle Admin Search, for product search and catalog auditing, so we know Shopify’s app requirements from direct experience. Details are on our Shopify apps page.
Can Shopify connect to procurement systems like Ariba or Coupa?
Not natively. Shopify does not support cXML PunchOut out of the box, but it can be added through punchout middleware or a custom app that sits between Shopify and the buyer’s procurement system. We offer this as part of our cXML PunchOut integration services.
Will you recommend Shopify even if it is not the best fit for us?
No. We are not a Shopify-only shop, so we have no incentive to force the platform. If your margins, customization needs, or B2B requirements point to nopCommerce, BigCommerce, or another platform, we will recommend that instead and explain why.
