User Experience Focussed

User Experience Focussed

We all wear different hats at Sandcastle Marketing, but the one thing that we all have in common is that we are all – to our core – marketers, first. We all look through every single project, not through the lens of a designer or a developer or a technician, but through the eyes of the customer, understanding what questions they may have concerning your business. If something doesn’t work, then it doesn’t matter how we feel about a project emotionally; the only thing that matters is what drives results.

Due to our 30+ years of experience in digital marketing, we have experts underneath our roof that specialize in web design, application development, and the online marketplace. As a team, we harness this diverse skill set to tackle any projects in our way, no matter the size or complexity.

Personalized Approach

Personalized Approach

These days, it seems like everyone is starting a “marketing agency.” But having a team of freelancers that work on a variety of different projects remotely doesn’t provide nearly the same level of touch that an in-house team can provide. For starters, when you call Sandcastle Marketing’s offices, you won’t be greeted by a robotic voice that will reroute you to seven different departments; you’ll interact with a live human and will remain with a live human for the duration of the call. If you have a question, comment, or just want to hear a quick proposal about a possible job, you’ll talk to a human every step of the way.

This personal touch extends to our clients, as well. We hate the term “account managers” because it implies that there is only one person in charge of a project at a time. In reality, we all take a very hands-on approach to every project we undertake. Though we may not be under the same roof as your company, we prefer our clients to think of us as their personal in-house web team.

Under-Promise, Over-Deliver

Under-Promise, Over-Deliver

We take a lot of pride in not only meeting the expectations of our clients but exceeding them wherever possible. We intentionally undersell ourselves to our clients so that we can follow that up with over-delivering on the results. We want you to be “wowed” by your experience working with us and view your time with us as an investment inside your business.

In addition to our commitment to excellence, we also put a premium on character. Integrity, honesty, and self-responsibility are the cornerstones of our business, and we would love to give you an opportunity to experience that! Beyond a shadow of a doubt, we believe that our solutions are an excellent value for the top-notch level of knowledge and service that we can provide. In addition to a successfully completed project, we genuinely hope that you enjoy your time working with us at Sandcastle Web Design & Development.

Our Guarantee to You

In addition to the items listed above, we also make a few guarantees to every single one of our clients. We call this our service level agreement (SLA), and it governs your website availability, reliability, and performance, as well as our commitment to the highest level of professionalism and insisting you with the timely maintenance of your site.

Uptime Guarantee

We partner with leading providers of hosting, networking and cloud-based computing technology in the world, to deliver unparalleled uptime. We guarantee at least a 99.9% uptime on any site hosted on our server platforms. In the event that he goes down due to service disruptions by unlikely events, such as countrywide network failures, natural disasters, or acts of terrorism, our technical staff will work hand-in-hand with our hosting providers to restart normal services as soon as possible.

Security Guarantee

We take security and data protection very seriously. All of our clients are protected by a dedicated hardware firewall, and access is limited to the office, staff, and client to provide a static IP for connectivity. Our hosting environments are PCI compliant, and we are happy to work with clients to provide PCI certification for their website through several third-party providers.

Backup Guarantee

We also utilize managed backup services, which provides full weekly backups with daily differentials stored off-site for an added level of security. These backups will include all site files, such as graphics, HTML, programming, and documents, and if needed, we can recover files quickly for online account management tool - usually in under an hour. In the event of a hardware failure, intensive proactive support service will be informed immediately and will take corrective action, with a one-hour hardware replacement guarantee.

Customer Support Guarantee

No client will be left out in the cold. We guarantee that we will respond to any non-critical issues, such as site updates and questions, within one business day during our normal business hours: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5:30 PM Pacific, excluding any standard holidays. We can also provide cell phone contact information for off-hour or emergency situations. In addition, we also monitor our email during evenings and weekends.

Scheduled Maintenance Guarantee

We will, from time to time, occasionally schedule maintenance events, perform updates and install system patches. We guarantee that you will be notified of these events 48 hours in advance unless there are high-priority, emergency situations. Typically, these updates require server downtime of less than 10 minutes and are excluded from our uptime guarantee.

Customer Disruption Guarantee

Sandcastle cannot be held liable in the event of service outages caused by direct customer actions. Although there are limitations on the manipulation of critical server configuration files (server settings, etc.) that a customer is allowed, if any customer's actions directly result in a service outage, Sandcastle will not compensate the customer affected by this outage. It is up to the customer to think of the consequences related to his/her actions. DNS service expiration, DNS legal disputes, web page deletions, and edits are just some examples of such troubles. Sandcastle reserves the right to charge customers time and material fees dependent on the type of service required for any issues caused directly by customer actions.

A Team That is Experienced

Some marketing agencies only cater to one type of business or the other. Whether that’s local mom-and-pop shops or national chains, there’s a good chance that if you call a standard agency, they won’t even try to service your particular industry.

That’s not the case with Sandcastle Web Design & Development. Since our team has so much variety, we have individuals with skill sets in totally different areas, such as real estate, pest control, and even yogurt. The strategy may change from business to business, but our overall approach to making your business stand out online will not. When you call Sandcastle, you know that you’re working with industry professionals, no matter your expertise.

A Team That Includes You

Ask any of our customers, and they’ll tell you that working with Sandcastle Web Design & Development was one of the most transparent experiences of their professional life. Not only do we allow our clients to peek behind the curtain as to the design process, but we encourage their participation to create a custom program that matches perfectly with their business.

Before we even get started, our design process includes a conversation with the customer to determine their exact goals for the project. Once we’ve compiled enough information, we’ll create various design concepts and present them to you. Once you sign off on the ideas you like the most and address any concerns or questions you may have, we’ll move to integrate the finished product into your business’ workflow. No matter if that includes updating your current site, making your app go live, or transitioning parts of your business to online, we guarantee a seamless delivery from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a website / mobile app cost?

That’s a little like saying “I want to build a house, how much will that cost?” To answer that question you’d need to ask/answer a variety questions: How big is the house? How many rooms? Granite or Formica? You get the picture. The same goes for a website or mobile app. Prices vary dramatically depending a number of factors: the size of the project, the complexity of the project, what assets you’ll bring the table, etc. Once we have brief conversation about your project we can typically provide a rough ballpark of the costs, and then we can provide a detailed proposal which will include a specific cost estimate. We can tell you, however, that most CMS websites start at $7,500, ecommerce sites start at $15,000, and mobile apps start at $5,000 … and custom software development cost can grow (substantially) from there depending upon your specific project requirements.

How do you determine the cost of a website / mobile app?

We begin by learning as much as we can about your project requirements. Typically this involves multiple conversations and access to any technical documentation you may have available. If possible, we also like to get in touch with key stakeholders in the project, including marketing, operations and technical contacts. With this insight we will prepare a detailed proposal that includes the specific tasks, steps and deliverables to meet your project requirements. This proposal will include time/cost estimates, which typically are quoted within a range to allow for minor changes in scope without cost overages.

How long does it take to build a website / mobile app?

This varies depending upon the complexity of the project, but most projects are competed in 75 to 90 business days.

What happens after my project is completed? Are you still around to support me?

We are not a “build it and walk away” type of company. While you will be empowered with tools to maintain your project, we’ll be here to support you along the way. This may include enhancements that are beyond your capabilities, or simple day to day maintenance that you just don’t have time for.

What do we need to supply?

You know your business and industry better than we do, so we expect that you’ll provide the ideas and insights necessary for us to create a website or application that meets these needs. Typically we also see clients provide: brand use guidelines; previous marketing materials; technical documentation; 3rd party integration details/contacts; product & pricing information; business logic and process flow; and access to appropriate people/information as needed. You may also elect to provide site content (copy and images), or we can include this in our scope of work working with copywriters/editors, photographers and illustrators we have available. Once the site is initially constructed, we’ll also rely on you to provide thorough review and testing of the site to ensure that it meets your criteria before the launch.

How long have you been in business?

Sandcastle was officially founded in 2001, however Ashlee and David (the co-founders of Sandcastle) have been working together since the mid 1990’s. That’s a long time in “internet years”!

What are your payment terms?

Typically projects are billed in 1/3 increments based upon key project milestones: project onset, design approval, site posted for review and testing, site launch. Hosting and regular maintenance fees are billed monthly and include complete time tracking logs.

Do you offer hosting?

Yes, but only for our project clients. We are not a general hosting facility. More information on our hosting can be found on our Hosting & Maintenance page.

Will I be able to self-manage and make edits to my site?

Whether it’s a single-page website or a multi-location, 1,000 product e-commerce store, we provide next-level customer support throughout the entire process. We take feedback, make adjustments, take care of any technical issues, handle the content creation process for your site, and answer any questions that you may have. This is your site after all; we just helped design it.

My Business is Local. Will You Still Build My Site?

Absolutely! We service all types of businesses, from local service businesses to nationwide chains. While the technical specifics behind the website itself may vary from site to site, our commitment to developing a well-rounded online strategy for your website will not.

What CMS platforms do you use?

We utilize a variety of Content Management Systems (CMS), including WordPress and Umbraco. Each platform have their particular strengths, so once we evaluate your project we’ll make an appropriate recommendation.

Who do I talk to if have an questions or urgent needs?

We don’t hide behind a wall of technical support robots; if you have concerns, issues or any emergencies , simply contact our offices to talk to a real person. Though we do have different departments that handle individual stages of the process, they’re all staffed by people whose chief priority is your satisfaction. Rest assured, you’ll be well taken care of during your time with Sandcastle Web Design & Development.
